River Outlook for 2017
We had an awesome 2016 season considering a late opener and still contending with a drought. The black drake hatch was great , lots of hexes, and an amazing Mahogany Dun hatch. We caught rainbows in the 20-26” and a lot of nice brook trout.
The Williamson river is in great shape, the work we have been doing has paid off very well, we have lots of new holes, Rainbow populations are expanding and the brook trout are doing well , Our season will open April 22nd this year, the April /May fishing looks to be great with a good hatch of PMD’s, June brings on the Black Drake hatch, July is the Hex hatch and August you can expect hoppers, baietus and caddis. September and October we have a great Mahogany Dun hatch with October and fall caddis. The nymph and streamer fishing is productive all year.
We are at 175% of normal on precipitation so far this winter with a very good snow pack, we have about 3’ around the house, The lake relies completely on snow melt and we are finally getting snow, the last couple years have been tough on the fish. We put fish in last spring that are doing well but the weed growth made it un-fishable. We are due for a big run off, keep your fingers crossed.
We had the opportunity to host Ford Outfitters for a show promoting Ford Trucks and Yamsi Ranch that turned out great. ”fordoutfitters.com” episode 9, Also Catch Magazine “catchmagazine.net” and Todd Moen did a film on the Ranch that is awesome , be sure to watch them.
The calendar is filling up fast , we look forward to fishing with you on the river and Hyde lake. Hope you all have a great 2017 and thank you for the memories.
